March 2019 Gleanings

March 9, 2019       1 Corinthians 12th Chapter

(We utilize the four components of basic inductive Bible study: Observation, Interpretation, Correlation and Application).

In this Bible study, we were able to study only 1st Corinthians 12 chapter - verses 1-11. Paul is now beginning to discuss with the Corinthians their problems concerning spiritual gifts. We observed in this passage that some of the people were not using their spiritual gifts and some were misusing them.

The diversity of the gifts is emphasized in verses 4-7, and a description of the gifts is given in verses 8-11. We discussed the nine spiritual gifts given in these verses and we shared they are grace gifts; we did not do anything to earn them and they are sovereignly given by the Holy Spirit for service.

Each of us has a spiritual gift to use for service to the edifying of others to the glory of God.

A spiritual gifts inventory was distributed to the attendees to complete to identify their spiritual gifts.

APPLICATION:

  1. Do you think most believers are aware of their spiritual gift(s)?
  2. Do you think that we generally covet gifts of others?
  3. Do you think misunderstanding of the spiritual gifts promote envy?

PRAYER:
Merciful Lord, in the name of Jesus, help us to know our spiritual gifts; help us to understand that the gifts are not for our edification but for others; give us enlightenment to see so that we will not misuse our gifts but use them for service.
