February 2019 Gleanings

February 9, 2019       1 Corinthians 11th Chapter

(We utilize the four components of basic inductive Bible study: Observation, Interpretation, Correlation and Application).
(No Gleanings for the month of December due to death and January was a post-Christmas meeting)
1 Corinthians 11TH Chapter – 34 verses

We studied the outline as follows: Verses 1-16 concerns the woman; verses 17-34 the Lord’s Supper. The first 16 verses we observe the delegated authority; the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man; the equality of man and woman being the same with varying functions especially in public worship. We observed the verses concerning head covering of the woman, long hair of the woman and the disdain of long hair for the man. Verses 17-34 we observed the importance of the sacrament, the Lord’s Supper.

In our discussion of women, during these contemporary times, many women do not wear hats and do not think it is an offense. Most of the attendees felt compliance with the concepts of Paul concerning head covering and the necessity for women to have long hair not applicable.

We discussed the importance of partaking the Lord’s Supper and as often we do it we do it in remembrance of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. We agreed that we are all unworthy to partake of the Lord’s Supper but prayer of repentance allows us to do so.

We had a lively discussion and tried to interpret the Word accurately.

  1. Do you think women should be held accountable to the concepts of Paul in this chapter?
  2. Do you think men who have bald heads are not in compliance with this chapter?
  3. Do you think there are times when believers of Jesus Christ should not take the Lord’s Supper?

Sovereign God, in the name of Jesus Christ we do so want to be obedient to your Word and we ask forgiveness when we are not. Help us to rightly divide the Word of Truth to edify others and glorify Thee. We are so thankful for your amazing grace that you have given us. In the name of Jesus Christ, we do pray Amen.
