April 2019 Gleanings

April 13, 2019       1 Corinthians 12th Chapter

(We utilize the four components of basic inductive Bible study: Observation, Interpretation, Correlation and Application).

1 Corinthians 12.12-31

In this Bible study we recapped the study of the spiritual gifts. Each attendee shared the results of their completed spiritual gifts inventories. It was quite informative as they shared their gifts with great anticipation to use them effectively. We shared the importance of also developing the gifts. (1Timothy 4.14 and 2 Timothy 1.6)

Spiritual gifts are also in correlating Scriptures: Romans 12.3-8 and Ephesians 4.7-11.

In this passage we observed the importance of gifts (verses 14-24); the outcome of gifts (verses 25-26); and the order of gifts (verses 27-31).

We discussed the misunderstanding of tongues, as well as misunderstanding the term "baptism of the Holy Spirit."

We had a lively discussion concerning the functioning of the Church where spiritual gifts are used effectively. Gifts are given to unify not divide.

APPLICATION:

  1. Have you completed a spiritual gifts inventory?
  2. Do you understand God has given the gifts needed for the body of Christ?
  3. Do we give undue emphasis to certain gifts?

PRAYER:
Sovereign God, in the name of Jesus help us to know our gift(s), develop our gifts and use them to your glory. Let us recognize and encourage others in their service to use gifts effectively and with love. Amen.
